It is about 18 km from Jaunpur and 76 km from Varanasi on Mirzapur-Jaunpur road & on Allahabad-Jaunpur railway line. The place is said to have derived its present name from Mandav Dev, the presiding deity of the Nandwaks, who ruled this region in medieval period. Khair-ud-din obtained this village from Emperor Akbar, and built the Jami Mosque in the town. He also constructed a mud fort at Quzi Kot. His Rauza & Ibadatgah (place of worship), are situated a few km away.
