This old temple houses a large Shiva Lingam and is said to be of Mahabharata Period. This area was then known as Pancharayam. According to one legend Pandavas visited this place during their exile. Bhima worshipped Lord Shiva here & built the temple which was then known as Bhimeshwar Mahadev. The present temple has been built by Maharaj Mansingh of Ayodhya. The temple is under the administration of District Magistrate Gonda. About one km from Prithavi Narayan, Jhali Dham is situated, which is the shrine of a saint by the same name. A pond is also situated adjoining this shrine.
