Sikandarpur, one of the oldest town of Ballia district is about 35 km from Ballia, 118 km from Gorakhpur and can be accessed through SH-1 from Gorakhpur. It is said to have derived name from Sikandar Lodi, towards the end of 15th century. The place was famous for its perfumes earlier but now only Gulabjal, Gulab-oil (Rose Rogan) & Jasmine oil are extracted from the flowers cultivated here, in traditional method. The products are sold to Kolkata traders. Gulkand & Gulab Sakri, consumed especially during summers, are also famous articles of the place. Jalpa-Kalpa Devi Temple The place has a temple dedicated to Jalpa-Kalpa Devi and a small tank known as Chaturmukhi Pokhra. The temple is the testimony of atrocities committed upon a young girl named Jalpa, who later attained the status of goddess because of her exemplary sacrifices. Jalpa-Kalpa Devi fair is held here during Durga Puja. People from Bihar, Ghazipur, Mau & other surrounding areas visit this temple.
