Kopia Anupriya, the protected site by Archaeological department of U.P., is located about 11 km from Khalilabad (on Bakhira-Menhdawal road) & 46 km from Gorakhpur (NH-28), in Sant Kabir Nagar district of U.P., India. The place is said to be related to Gautam Buddha. He is supposed to have finally renounced his royal robe, Chariot & Sarthi (Chariot navigator) here only. The findings from this site belong to the Maurya, Sunga, Kushana & Gupta period and some of the artifacts recovered out of the excavations have been preserved in the Buddha Museum of Gorakhpur. Presently the site in form a mound is not well maintained and has been encroached by the villagers for agricultural purpose. A temple has been constructed at the top of the mound by villagers.
