The fair site is located at a distance of about 3 km from bus stand of Ballia city, U.P., India. The fair is held here annually starting from Kartik Purnima (Nov. month) in the honour of Dadar Muni, the disciple of Rishi Bhrigu. It is believed that he brought the River Saryu up to Ballia on the order of his Guru. That event is celebrated by a one month long yagya & festivity. Even today Dadari Mela (fair) is celebrated to mark that event. Located at the south end of the city, the fair is organized in two phases. During the first phase a cattle fair is organized at Nandigram which starts 10 days before the Kartik Purnima, later, on the day of Kartik Purnima. Meena Bazaar having shops of different items, with many amusement facilities & various cultural programs are organized which last for one month. Famous Hindi literature, Bhartendu delivered his most famous historical speech here in 1884 on Kartik Purnima. That speech is still known as Ballia speech. Every year, during the fair, prominent poets, dramatists & other literary persons perform here from the stage called Bhartendu Manch.
