Swami passed his early childhood in Chhapiaya & then migrated to Ayodhya. Renouncing his home at the tender age of 11, after the deep study of Hindu Scriptures, he performed seven years of pilgrimage through Nepal, Eastern & Southern India before settling down in western state Gujarat, where he was adopted by Ramanand, the head of great Vaishanv Monastery, at Junagarh. He became a noted Sanskrit Scholar and gained a wide reputation for his learning & piety among his followers. After his death at the age of 49, he was accorded divine honour by his devotees as the incarnation of Krishna under the name of Swaminarayan.
