Siddhpeetha of Devi Patan is situated in the tarai region of Himalaya and is one of the 51 Shaktipeetha and also one of the most significant Shaktipeetha in the region. The temple is situated on the road leading to Chaudharidih from Tulsipur at a short distance, in the west of Tulsipur.
It is believed that right shoulder (Pat) of Sati had fallen here that is why it is called Patan Devi. Devipatan is the place of great antiquity and is traditionally connected with Raja Karn of Mahabharata. Legend has it that the temple was reconstructed by Vikramaditya (Chandragupta II). King Suheldev of Sravasti had renovated the temple during 11th century.
The Devi Patan Shaktipeetha was established by Guru Gorakshnath of the Nath Sampradaya and is one of the oldest seats of Nath cult in north India. The temple is run by this trust (Avaidya Nath Trust). One charitable hospital is also attached to the temple.
Beside the idol of main deity (installed in 1982), there are idols of Kali, Kal Bhairav & others installed around the temple. One pond (Kund (Pond) named Surya Kund), is also located on the right side of the temple.
