Somedev, son of Rishi Atri & Anusuiya underwent penance for thousand years to get rid off Raj Yakshma (Possibly a variant of Tuberculosis) and it is believed that Lord Shiva after being pleased by his devotion granted him cure & freedom from the disease. There is a trident on the temple top, which rotates as per the waxing & waning of the moon. This strange phenomenon draws a large number of devotees from all over to this temple.
The temple houses an octagonal stone pillar with a 15 line inscription. This inscription mentions the year 1674, and also mentions about the renovation of this temple by Raja Man Singh of Jaipur. It is believed that this stone monograph was carved & installed at that time only. According to Hindu mythology, without visiting this temple one does not get the spiritual benefits of bathing in the Sangam.
