KSKGRL is a regional centre of IIG (Indian Institute of Geomagnetism), a leading institute of the country actively engaged in basic and applied research in Geomagnetism & Allied areas of atmosphere, Space Physics & Plasma Physics. It was inaugurated on 27th March, 2008. The activities of the laboratory cover the field of geomagnetic research, upper atmospheric studies, palaeo-magnetic and magnetic-petrology studies. It is situated on the crest of equatorial ionization anomaly so the observations carried out here provide important data base for the studies of upper atmosphere in low latitude region. One of the main functions of KSKGRL is to carry out uninterrupted recordings of earth’s magnetic field measurements. The data collected are sent to IIG headquarter at Navi Mumbai to be used for research applications.
