Hindustani Academy was established in 1927 and was inaugurated on 29th March of the same year by Provincial Governor Sir William Mauris. The objective of the Hindustani Academy from its inception till date, has been the progress and preservation of Hindi & Urdu literature. The academy organizes series of lectures of eminent personalities from time to time and many of them have been published in book form. The birthday of former national poet Maithali Sharan Gupta that falls on 3rd of August is celebrated as Kavi Divas (Poet's day) since 1987. The academy has given awards to many scholars & litterateurs from time to time. Some of them include Munshi Prem Chand, Ram Chandra Shukl, Maulana Sayyad Ali Naquvi etc. The academy also publishes many books both in Hindi & Urdu, periodically & quarterly. A research journal named 'Hindustani' is being published by the academy since 1931. Its publication was stopped for financial reasons from 1948-1957. The academy has a very rich library with the collection of more than 15000 books in different languages.
