Gorakhpur

Adra Vanvasini Lehra Devi Temple is a Siddha Shaktipeetha, which is situated on the bank of river Pavah( now confined to a narrow Nala/stream).


This is an important and largest natural flood plain wetland in the eastern U.P., which provides a wintering & staging ground for a number of migratory waterfowls & a breeding ground for resident birds. Bakhira Bird Sanctuary is spread over an area of 28.94 sq.


Sikandarpur, one of the oldest town of Ballia district is about 35 km from Ballia, 118 km from Gorakhpur and can be accessed through SH-1 from Gorakhpur. It is said to have derived name from Sikandar Lodi, towards the end of 15th century. The place was famous for its perfumes earlier but now only Gulabjal, Gulab-oil (Rose Rogan) & Jasmine oil are extracted from the flowers cultivated here, in traditional method. The products are sold to Kolkata traders. Gulkand & Gulab Sakri, consumed especially during summers, are also famous articles of the place.


This area was declared a Sanctuary in the year 1987 and is spread over an area of 482 km2. It is the prominent attraction of Maharajganj District and includes seven forest ranges of the adjoining areas. The Sanctuary acts as the corridor between the Sanctuaries in Nepal & Bihar.


This temple is located in the eastern end of Deoria district at Sohagra. The temple houses a huge Shivling. Shivratri & Shravan month are special occasions.


The temple is dedicated to Goddess Sonari Devi and is the seat of Gorakhpanthi Sect of Nath Sampradaya. One Yagyashala with thatched roof is located near the main temple within the campus, where Havan (a religious ceremony) is performed on every Tuesday.
