A local leader Baba Raghav Das participated vigorously in the political struggle, to overthrow the British Government. A Shaheed Smarak (martyr's memorial) established inside Anant Peeth, still recalls the spirit of sacrifice and courage shown by local people during the long years of struggle for freedom. A memorial, in the name of martyr Ram Prasad Bismil, who was hanged by the British on 19th Dec, 1927, in Gorakhpur Jail has also been built.
