The temple is located on the northern bank of the River Sai. It has considerable local importance due to the temple of Lord Shiva, who is named here as Belkarnath. The temple is named after the Belkharia / Bilkheria Rajputs, one of the oldest talukdari clans in Awadh. The ruins of the fort of Belkharia's lie near the bank of Sai River. Many small temples are located around the main temple. A religious fair on the eve of Shivratri is held here annually.
